Tips for improving

Here are some very easy tips and tricks to make fewer spelling and grammar mistakes. The pronunciation is the same, but not the spelling. And there are many other tricks!

How to choose between a, as and à?

a : verb avoir, present indicative tense, 3rd person singular 
→ Il a raison. Elle a peur. On a de la chance.

as : verb avoir, present indicative tense, 2nd person singular 
→ Tu as raison. Tu as peur. Tu as de la chance.

à : préposition which is mainly used to indicate place and time
→ Il va à l'école. Nous habitons à Paris. J'arrive à 3 heures.

 

Don't confuse ces and ses anymore

ces: determiner with plural noun
→ J'achète ces livres. J'achète ce livre.
→ J'achète ces oranges. J'achète cette orange.

ses : plural possessive determiner
→ Il met ses chaussures. Il met sa chaussure.
Ses amis sont gentils. Son ami est gentil.

 

Should you write er or é?

é: past participle endings for 1st group verbs
→ Le train est arrivé.

er: infinitive endings for 1st group verbs
→ Il faut arriver à 8 heures.
